There are a lot of vocalist who perform with a lot of heart and soul. Superb vocalist who enjoy entertaining and doing what they do for all of their fans that are attending their performance. Singers who live for the moment and give it all they got for each and every occasion. Although the above-mentioned vocalists are all older, there is one young girl who fits the description of all the characteristics named. Her name is Demi.

Demi Alyssa Garcia was born October 6, 1993 in San Antonio, Texas to Rick and Margie Garcia. She is the youngest of the family and has one sibling, her older brother, Justin Andrew. Demi’s life would start out with her having to overcome a major obstacle. She was born with cerebral palsy. This caused her to be behind in her development. While other kids her age were walking, running, and playing, Demi was still trying to sit on her own. With a lot of prayers from family and friends, Demi did overcome this disorder.

Her first friend and teacher, Gloria, helped her through physical therapy and her support got her through the toughest times. Gloria encouraged her to do better and to do her best with her exercises. Demi’s parents and brother were also always there for support by showing her how much they loved her.

With all the events that were occurring, her father had heard that music was good therapy and so he went looking for a little stereo for Demi, so she could use it. Little did he know that this form of therapy would be just the thing that she needed. Her father ended up coming across a Karaoke machine and thought that it would be a great idea to get it in order to help Demi with her speech, and motor skills. So the music therapy would go into effect by her mother playing the radio for her with tapes of their favorite music - Pop, Country, and Tejano.

Demi’s mom would then notice that Demi seemed to enjoy Tejano music more than anything else because of the way Demi put her little hand on the speakers and that she seemed to show more movements in her little arms and legs. She also noticed that Demi seemed to really love to hear Selena’s music.

Little by little, Demi started to show improvement on her motor skills. She started reaching for things, tried to take little steps, and didn’t fall as much when trying to walk. She started saying more words and played with the little microphone. In fact, two weeks before her operation on her little legs was to take place, Demi started walking and never crawled. It had been Selena’s music that had encouraged her to move towards the sound of the music that was playing from her little karaoke machine. Tragically though, exactly two weeks later Selena passed away, in Corpus Christi.

A little time passed and Demi’s speech started improving and she started singing by the young age of 3 years old. She would now sing all the time and loved to sing for people. It was on one special day that Demi’s dad took her to Market Square where some children were doing karaoke. Demi begged her Dad to please let her give it a try. She had just turned 5 years old. Her dad finally gave in; hoping that she would not get stage fright. Demi was given permission to sing one song. This song would be "Como La Flor" by Selena and when she finished singing Demi threw a kiss up towards the sky, which was thanking Selena for sharing her beautiful voice with her. That day Demi got a standing ovation and knew from then on that she was destined to be an entertainer because she loved to perform and entertain the crowd.

With Demi’s vocal talent progressing, her mother persuaded Demi’s father into taking guitar lessons so that he could play the guitar for Demi when she performed. Although her father did take a couple of lessons, he never really had the time to practice. Because of this, the guitar would now be available for another aspiring musician to take control of.

Demi’s brother, Justin, who is 4 years older than Demi, would end up sneaking the guitar in his room and started practicing. His mother would eventually tell him to put the guitar away and leave it alone, because it was his father’s. Well, one-day Justin’s mom heard some really nice oldies music playing and she walked towards the music, thinking at first that it was the radio or possibly a cassette. She opened the door to Justin’s room, only to discover it was Justin playing "Donna" by Richie Valens, on the guitar. Justin’s mom was in total astonishment. She was surprised but knew that her son had talent so she had Demi sing along as Justin strummed his dad’s acoustic guitar.

Ever since that moment, the two have been working together ever since. Justin was 9 at the time and Demi was a mere 5 years old. From that time on, Demi and Justin have performed across Texas in various events; Tejano Madness, where she was the youngest participant, TTMA Fan Fair, Various Talent shows, where the kids have won 1st and 2nd place. In one of the talents shows Demi won a look alike Selena karaoke contest where she sang "La Carcacha, and won 1st place for her singing and dancing, while Justin was dressed like Chris Perez-- Selena’s husband.

The duo have also opened for bands such as Lisa Y Aventura, Grupo Fuerzzo, Los Desperadoz, Patsy Torres, and Trisha y Ritmo. Demi has also had the opportunity to share the stage with talented vocalists such as: Trisha, Shelly Lares, and Linda Escobar.

Although most of the focus of attention is towards Demi, this is by all means a family affair. Besides being Demi’s older brother, guitar player, and protector, Justin helps Demi plan out the shows and picks out the music for her. The kids then present it to their mother and mom gives the approval. Margie also plays a very influential role in her children’s musical activities. She picks out their costumes, has the authority on photos, gigs, and the line up for the songs. Let’s not forget to mention that she keeps up with the kid’s schedule, whether it is the children’s school activities, their performances, bookings, music lessons, or Demi’s dance classes. Their father, Rick, also plays a pivotal role. He is the manager, driver, sound engineer, booking agent, promoter, and financial supporter. With a dedicated support team, a growing fanbase, their love for music, and a close family bond such as this, there is no wonder why the talented musical duo of Demi and Justin are definitely the future of Tejano music.

The Garcia Family would like to thank all the guidance and support of many different artists. Thanks to Shelly Lares, Linda Escobar, Kalor, Jay Perez, Alex DeLeon, and Stefani Montiel for the exposure and wisdom you have given to them. Also to Carl Leon who has had a tremendous impact on the kids with your friendship and advice. Carl took the kids under his wing and helped them with their music and shows. And a special thanks to Abel Hernandez of La Onda Network and Crazy Chuy of Chicanoexpress.com Radio Show. A Big Thanks goes to all the TJ’ers and BG’ers. Because of everyone’s help, Demi and Justin have really blossomed in their music talent and have been asked to perform at many events, which is keeping them currently busy.
